JOSEPH BUCHER

Joseph BUCHER passed peacefully away April 10, 1930, at the St. Joseph hospital in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA), where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. He was of a strong, robust constitution, only two years ago did his health begin to fail when heart trouble and dropsy made in roads in his once strong constitution.

Three different times was he a patient at St. Joseph hospital and then yearning for home folks, he would return to his Libertyville home. A great blow came to him when his dear, patient little wife, who had always been a partner in all his joys and sorrows, passed into the Great Beyond December 19, 1929, and earth and life had never seemed the same to him since her departure, and no doubt but how they together have joined the choir invisible.

Mr. BUCHER was the son of Joseph and Mary BUCHER, born June 30, 1854, in Marbach, Switzerland. When but a young man of 28 years, he embarked for America, in company with a younger brother, Pete, and two Stueder boys, all neighbors. They landed at New York and thence came to Lockridge, Iowa, going afoot to the Tilman home where William Turner now lives near Four Corners. Three years later, January 26, 1885, he was united in marriage to Emilie KILCHER, they being the parents of fourteen children, two dying when quite young, and Anna, a young lady, passed away in 1922.

The surviving children are Mrs. Rosa BIEHL of Aurora, Ill., Peter of Beckwith, Mrs. Sophia NELSON of Monmouth, Mrs. Elizabeth NELSON of Birmingham, Mrs. Mary NEWKIRK of Oxford, Mrs. Elsie HURTER of Aurora, Mrs. Laura FINEFIELD of Davenport, Joseph, Edward, Ruth and Lucile of Libertyville. He also leaves one brother, Herman, east of the city, and Karl, John, and Miss Mary, who are still in Switzerland, and a host of friends.

Mr. BUCHER took out his naturalization papers soon after coming to the United States and thus becoming a full fledged American citizen, casting his first vote for Grover Cleveland. He was an excellent neighbor, a kind father and a loving husband. He is now at rest, his life work over with. The relatives have the sympathy of their many friends. He was reared, lived and died and buried in the Catholic faith.

A Friend.
