MRS. JOSEPH BUCHER

Mrs. Joseph BUCHER passed peacefully away Dec. 19, 1929, at 9:45 o'clock at her home in Libertyville. Mrs. BUCHER was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Urs KILCHER and was born at Basil, Switzerland, March 17, 1866.

At the early age of seventeen years, she with her parents, bade their Swiss relatives and friends farewell and set sail for America, being six weeks on their voyage, coming direct to Lockridge, Iowa, walking to Four Corners to visit a daughter and sister who had come to this country two years before. After a short visit at the Michael HABER home, there they came to Fairfield where they settled in the southeast part of the city.

Joseph BUCHER wooed and won Emilie KILCHER for his bride and in January 26, 1885, they were united in marriage and at once settled on a farm south of Merrimac, where they lived until 1907, when they located on a farm near Lockridge.

Two years later the family moved to a farm south of Beckwith, where they made many friends. In 1917 they moved to Fairfield, then purchased a farm near Libertyville, where they resided until failing health of Mrs. BUCHER caused from a serious attack of pneumonia three years ago, had so weakened her once strong and robust constitution that last August the family moved in to Libertyville, yet hoping that a rest might prove beneficial to the loved one's health, but it was not to be. Yet patiently and ever hopefully, she steadily grew worse, being bedfast four months, and the last two months hovering between life and death, but death was the victor, and she quietly and peacefully closed her eyes on the scenes of this life to be with her beloved Redeemer whom she loved and served while on earth.

Mrs. BUCHER was the mother of 14 children, two dying when small and how heroically she gave up their daughter, Anna, who was in the prime of her teens in June, 1922.

The living children are: Mrs. Rosa BEIHL of Aurora, Ill., Peter BUCHER of Beckwith, Ia., Mrs. Sophia NELSON of Monmouth, Ill., Mrs. Elizabeth NELSON of Stockport, Ia., Mrs. Mary NEWKIRK of Oxford, Ia., Mrs. Elsie HERTER of Aurora, Mrs. Laura PINEFIELD of Davenport. The remaining ones at home are Joe, Edward,. Ruth and Lucile. (sic)

And she also took into her fold a little motherless grand-daughter Mildred Louise whose mother passed away when she was but a few days old. The little one now being four years of age, has always been given a loving mother's care in the BUCHER home. She also leaves a heart broken husband who is in very poor health. Earth and life seems very dark and desolate to the family. But their dear one is at rest. Her life work is over with.

Mrs. BUCHER was an exemplary woman, possessing all the qualities that made her a good wife, a kind mother and a good obliging neighbor and friend. She being always a home woman, always having a kind word for all. While a lonely husband and surviving children and many friends mourn their loss. They mourn not as those who have no hope. She was raised in the Lutheran faith, but when she was married she joined the Catholic church and has ever remained a devoted member until now she has joined the Church Triumphant.

Mrs. BUCHER is also survived by one brother Jacob KILCHER of Mt. Pleasant and three sister (sic), Mrs. Henry JOHNSON of Salina, Mrs. Jacob DIETRICK, Wichita, Kansas and Mrs. Michael HABER, Los Angeles, Cal. Her children all being present at the funeral with the excep(tion (sic) of Mrs. Sophia NELSON of Monmouth, and Mrs. Mary NEWKIRK of Oxford who on account of illness were unable to be present.

The funeral services were held from St. Mary's Catholic church in Fairfield Monday morning Dec. 23 and interment was made in Evergreen cemetery. George Hammon sang "Face to Face" during the requiem high mass. The pall bearers were six nephews: Herman and Tony BUCHER, Ray, Clifford and Ralph JOHNSON and Charles DIETRICK.
