As we gather 'round your chair,
Oh, we could not think you dead;
But Death had waved his sceptre o'er you,
And your soul from earth had fled.

Yes, dear mother, we have bid you,
Bid you now a sad adieu.
You have gone to live in heaven,
And your vision lost from view.

You are gone, but not forgotten
By your loved ones here on earth,
And your name we'll fondly cherish,
As we meet around the hearth.
