Mary Catherine Sheetz, 78, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at United Presbyterian Home in Washington.

The funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Presbyterian Church in Washington, with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be at 9 a.m., with family present from 4-6:30 p.m. Friday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington.

Memorials may be made to United Presbyterian Home.

Mrs. Sheetz was born Nov. 23, 1926, in Macomb, Ill., the daughter of John Henry and Catherine Lavisa Duncan Carey. She married Harold Norton July 31, 1946, in Washington. He died in 1972. She married Leland Sheetz April 25, 1986, in Burlington. He died in 2004.

She owned and operated Grandma's House Restaurat in Washington for 18 years. Prior to owning the restaurant, she worked for McCleery-Cumming Co., from 1959-1979. She also worked as a cook at Halcyon House.

She was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Washington.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Norton of Washington; one daughter, Cathy Whisler and husband Steve of Washington; one stepson, Jim Sheetz and wife Angie of Washington; one stepdaughter, Julie Wells and husband Dick of West Chester; five sisters, Darlyne Jaspering of Washington, Alice Dawson of Aurora, Colo., Joan Collett of Washington, Shirley York of Ainsworth, and Joyce Nash of Washington; two brothers, John Carey of of Washington and Jim Carey of Washington; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Harold Norton Jr.; two sisters, Donna Wagenknecht and Margaret Ellen; two brothers, Richard Carey and Dean Edward Carey; and one great-grandchild.
