Darlene L. DeRoss, 72, of Chicago, formerly of Birmingham, died May 23, 2005.

The funeral was May 25 at St. Gerald Church in Chicago. Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. DeRoss grew was born July 16, 1932, and was raised in Birmingham. She married Joseph DeRoss Jr. He died in 1983.

She moved to Chicago in the 1950s, where she was married and raised a family. She moved to Birmingham after her husband died. She returned to Chicago in July 2004 for cancer treatment.

Survivors include three sons, Michael DeRoss and wife Margaret, John DeRoss and wife Judy, and Donald DeRoss and wife Catherine; two daughters, Carol Mankus and husband Kenneth and Donna Anders; six brothers, Ralph, Keith Wayne, Carl, William, Donald and Nicholas; two sisters, Roberta Stephenson and Vaunciel Stephenson; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
