Mr. and Mrs. L. M. BROWN Die In Midnight Crash When Train Hits Auto At KelloggMr. and Mrs. L. M. BROWN, former Fairfield residents, but who have been living at Newton for two years, were killed at midnight last night when a Rock Island train hit the auto in which they were riding at Kellogg.
Mr. BROWN, who was known among his friends as "Sallie," a play upon Lazell, his first name, was an iron molder and lived in the northwest part of the city and worked at the Malleable Iron company until he moved to Newton to the employ of the Maytag Washing Machine company. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. J. W. BROWN, 700 West Stone street. They left early this morning for Newton to bring the bodies home. Funeral services are not definitely arranged, but probably will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 oclock at the First Methodist church in charge of Dr. H. B. Scoles. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. BROWN was born near Lockridge and was 26 years old. His wife who was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. JAMES, who formerly owned the Kozy cafe, was born in this county and was 24 years old. They leave a daughter, Myrna, 5 years old.
Mr. BROWN is survived by his parents and three sisters, Miss Blanche BROWN, a teacher in the Packwood schools, Mrs. Floyd EDWARDS and Mrs. Floyd EDWARDS (sic) and Mrs. eifif-- Mrs. Norval MITCHELL of Fairfield (sic).
When the BROWNs lived here they resided at 1109 West Briggs street

Mr. and Mrs. L. M. BROWN Will Be Buried In One Grave at EvergreenFuneral services for Mr. and Mrs. L. M. BROWN, who were killed at Kellogg, Iowa, Wednesday midnight when their auto was struck by a train, will be held at the First Methodist church here tomorrow afternoon at 2 oclock. Dr. H. B. Scoles, pastor of that church, will be in charge.
There will be two sets of pallbearers and the bodies will be interred in one grave, in Evergreen cemetery.
The bodies will arrive here at midnight and will be taken to the Butler funeral home to await the jour of the funeral.
Thirty-five relatives will come for the rites.
DES MOINES, Dec. 18--Miss Helen Hodge, 18-year-old daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Orville Hodge, 3421 University avenue, and three other persons were almost instantly killed when a Ford couple in which they were riding was struck broadside by an east bound Rock Island passenger train Wednesday night on the crossing near Kellogg, Ia.
The party was returning home from a dance at Kellogg when the accident occurred.
Other occupants of the car who were killed were; Arnold Morris, 18 years old, and Mr. and Mrs. L. M. BROWN, all of Newton, Ia.
Passengers of another automobile who witnessed the accident stated that it was their belief that the driver of the couple was unable to see the approaching train because of steam on the windows and also on account of the extra passengers.
Miss Hodge and Morris were both students at the Newton High school.

Hundreds of Friends Attend; Floral Offerings Most BeautifulFuneral services for Mr. and Mrs. L. M. BROWN, who met their death Wednesday night when a train struck them at Kellogg, Iowa was held Saturday afternoon at 2 oclock from Methodist church which was filled with many sympathizing friends of this fine young couple. Dr. H. B. Scoles had charge of the services. Miss Mary Stever and Mrs. Albert Johnson sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere',' "Face to Face" and "Safe In the Arms of Jesus.' Miss Hannah Van Nostrand accompanied them on the piano. Interment was made at Evergreen cemetery.
