Donald R. Nelson, 76, of Keosauqua died at 3 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

The funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Birmingham Presbyterian Church, with his nephew Dan Dingus officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery near Birmingham, with military rites by Haney-Brannan Post of the American Legion.

Visitation opened at 2 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua. The family will be present from 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to Haney-Brannan Post of the American Legion in Birmingham or Birmingham Lions Club may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at PO Box 263, Birmingham 52535.

Mr. Nelson was born April 6, 1929, near Birmingham, the son of Seth W. and Frances Clarridge Nelson. He married JoAnn Bills. They were divorced.

He graduated from Birmingham High School. He farmed the family farm near Birmingham and moved to Keosauqua in 1984. He had been a resident at Van Buren Good Samaritan since October.

Mr. Nelson sold MoorMan's Feed, worked at American Chain and Cable in Fairfield and Barker Equipment Company in Keosauqua.

He served in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean conflict.

He was a member of Birmingham Presbyterian Church.

He also was a member of the Haney-Brannan Post of the American Legion and a charter member of Birmingham Lions Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Lyon and husband David of Birmingham and Linda Mueller and husband Doug of Belton, Mo.; one son, David Nelson of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Dingus of Keosauqua and Mary Anna Nelson of Fort Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
