Illness Fatal To Clifford C. BROWN, Former Resident

FT. MADISON, Ia.--Clifford C. BROWN, 73, well-known businessman and former resident of Fairfield, died here last night at Sacred Heart hospital. He had been seriously ill for four weeks.

Services will be held here Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Clements Funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. Walter Turney and Dr. Curtis Douglass. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Fairfield.

BROWN was born in Fairfield Dec. 1, 1879, the son of Harvey L. and Margaret Ann JORDAN BROWN. He was married to Bessie KEARNS at Fairfield May 10, 1900.

A resident of Ft. Madison for 12 years, he was manager of the Burrus Monument Co., He was an elder of the Union Presbyterian church and was an active member of the Rotary club, Chamber of Commerce and Clay Poole Masonic Lodge No. 13.

BROWN graduated from Fairfield high school in 1897 and later attended Parsons college. He purchased the Bloomfield Marble and Granite Works in 1918 and lived in Bloomfield until returning to Fairfield in 1935. While in Bloomfield, he was a member of the city council for many years.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, A. Dwight BROWN, Plainfield, N. J., and Edmund L. BROWN, Des Moines. Five grandchildren also survive. One son, one brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
