Death Comes To Mrs. BOYD

Mrs. A. J. BOYD, long-time resident of Fairfield, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson Nursing home west of Fairfield where she had been a patient for the past several weeks.

Last rites will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Raymond funeral home with the Rev. J. Roland Crandall officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Grace M. BOYD, 86, was born June 26, 1876, at Eldon, Iowa, the daughter of W. M. and Belle EDDY DOWNEY. She was united in marriage to Andrew Jackson BOYD who preceded his wife in death several years ago.

BOYD operated a grocery store at the corner of Sixth and Depot for a number of years before his death, and they owned a number of properties in that area for some time.

Before moving to the Nelson Nursing home some time ago, she had been a patient in a nursing home at Agency.

She is survived by one son, Ray, whose address is unknown; two grandsons, Cloyce BOYD and Ray BOYD Jr., Burlington; and a cousin, Charles EDDY, Ottumwa.

Mrs. BOYD lived at 500 W. Depot for a number of years before going to the nursing home.

Note: Buried in Lot 2nd.276, with no gravestone. According to Jefferson County Marriage Records, she was married to Frank M. BOYD on November 19, 1894. When and where she was married to Andrew BOYD is unclear at this point; the 1910 census indicates she and Andrew had been married for 15 years but that can't be correct as the 1900 census shows her as widowed with 2-year-old son Ray. An article in "The Fairfield Ledger" on May 7, 1902, details a property sale by "Grace BOYD and husband" to Frank J. DeMarsh, but does not name Grace's husband.
