J. M. "Mel" BLOUGH, well known Jefferson county resident, passed away about 3:45 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson Nursing home west of Fairfield. He had been a patient at the nursing home the past three months and seriously ill the past week.
The BLOUGH homestead was located about 2½ miles southeast of Fairfield for many years. In later years he made his home with his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. John BLOUGH, and seven years ago he moved to Fairfield to reside with his other son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe BLOUGH.
Last rites will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with the Rev. Donald Eagle in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
J. M. BLOUGH, 89, was born Dec. 8, 1868, at the BLOUGH homestead southeast of the city. He was the son of the late Henry and Anna BAUGHMAN BLOUGH. He spent his entire life in the same community.
Mr. BLOUGH was united in marriage on Nov. 14, 1900, to Myrtle Eleanor DONALD. He was married a second time to Grace HARPER on Sept. 20, 1905. The wedding took place in Fairfield.
He has taken an active part in community affairs during his long life and was well known throughout the county. He served as assessor for Cedar township for 24 years; he was secretary of the Jefferson County Wool Growers association for a number of years; and served as a director of the Jefferson county Mutual Insurance company.
He with his two brothers, were importers and breeders of fine horses from France and Belgium. Their father imported the first horses west of the Mississippi river.
His first wife passed away Nov. 28, 1901, and the second Mrs. BLOUGH passed away June 28, 1931.
Mr. BLOUGH is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Milo HAMILTON, Fairfield; two sons, John and Joe, both of Fairfield; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a brother, Chris BLOUGH, also of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters, and two grandchildren.
