BLAINE Injured --
Man Struck By Train

Louie Roscoe BLAINE, 65, Fairfield, remains in serious condition at the University Hospital in Iowa City today where he is being treated for injuries received when he was hit by a train Tuesday afternoon.

The accident took place at 3:19 p.m. at the Eighth Street grade crossing.

Police reports said the train involved was a four-car local train from Ottumwa to Fairfield.

Witnesses said BLAINE was pushed aside by the train and was not run over. Reports said he was in critical condition suffering from apparent internal injuries.

He was first taken to the Jefferson County Hospital and later transferred to Iowa City City (sic) by ambulance where his condition was reported as serious late this morning.

The Eighth Street grade crossing is closed at the present time as Burlington Northern Railroad crews are rebuilding the crossing.

Witnesses said BLAINE had been visiting with friends at the Fairfield Aluminum Castings Co. plant and said upon leaving he was going home. His home address is 708 W. Grimes.

The train was traveling east at a relative slow rate of speed as BLAINE started to cross the tracks going south. One witness said he is recovering from a stroke he suffered some time ago.

BLAINE Dies Of Injuries

Louie R. BLAINE, 65, 708 W. Grimes, died Sunday at 12:15 p.m. at University Hospitals in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

His death resulted from injuries sustained Nov. 4 when he was struck by a Burlington Northern train at the Eighth Street crossing.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Vaughan officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

BLAINE had been employed at the Fairfield Aluminum Castings Co. for the past 24 years. He was born Dec. 17, 1909 near Memphis, Mo., the son of Virgile and Mary TREMAIN BLAINE. He was reared and educated in Bible Grove, Mo.

BLAINE was married to Mary EGGERS Dec. 24, 1931. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Bible Grove.

Surviving are his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Norma COLE, Fairfield; one sister, Mrs. Lela LAY, Edina, Mo.; and one half-sister, Mrs. Alta GLENN, Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by one sister, one half-sister and two half-brothers.
