OBITUARY

Leslie J. BLACK

SALEM -- Leslie J. BLACK, 90, of Salem, died at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 1994, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA).

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. visitation will begin Friday morning at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7 to 8 that night. The casket will be closed. A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association.

BLACK was born Nov. 7, 1903, in Henry County, the son of George C. and Anna Belle MESSER BLACK. He married Mable BRIGGS on May 5, 1924. She died Jan. 30, 1972. A resident of Salem for most of his life, he worked for CB and Q Railroad as a section foreman, retiring after 50 years of employment. He then raised blank angus cattle and farmed near Salem.

Surviving are a son, Robert Anderson of Salem; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Zenith BLACK of Fairfield is his sister-in-law. Four brothers, George, Harry, Earl, Jessie, and three sisters, Eva, Grace and Geneva, preceded him in death.
