Ruth H. BERG (sic - Ruth M.)

Ruth H. BERG, 93, of Bartels Lutheran Home in Waverly, formerly of Fairfield, died Sunday, July 21, 1996, at the home (note: in Bremer Co., IA).

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Keith Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home. Memorials have been established to First Lutheran Church, and to the ministry at Bartels Lutheran Home.

Mrs. BERG was born Aug. 23, 1902, near Salina in Jefferson County, the daughter of Axel and Mary FREEBURG PETERSON. She was baptized Oct. 27, 1903, and confirmed June 18, 1916, in Salina Lutheran Church. On Oct. 6, 1926, she married Frank H. BERG. He died April 16, 1981.

The couple had farmed in Jefferson County until 1971, when they retired from farming and moved to Fairfield. She moved to Waverly in September 1986 to be near her family. In February 1991, she became a resident of the Bartels Lutheran Home. She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Fairfield before moving to Waverly, where she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Surviving are a son, Carrol of Waverly; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna BUHMEYER of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. A granddaughter, six brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
