Laurel BENTLEY rites pending

Laurel P. BENTLEY, 70, 909 E. Madison, died at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 1988, at Jefferson County Hospital.

Arrangements are pending at Raymond Funeral Home.

BENTLEY was born Aug. 26, 1917, in Oran, the son of Burton and Mollie WILLIAMS BENTLEY. He lived most of his childhood in Plainfield and graduated from Waverly High School. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He married Phyllis M. LICHTY Aug. 9, 1950, at LuVerne. He worked with his father in a creamery, and was a sales representative for Louden Machinery Company in eastern states for eight years and local sales manage for three years before he purchased the Dream Motel. The BENTLEYs operated the motel for 15 years in association with the Stever House Restaurant and Lounge, which they owned for 10 years.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Fairfield Lions Club and was a life member of Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 15 and the Elks. He was past president of the Iowa Lodging Association and of the National Hotel and Motel Association for 60 Units and Under Division.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Phillip of Des Moines; a daughter, Dawn BENTLEY, three grandchildren, all of Fairfield; and a brother, Lowell of Ackley. His parents and a sister preceded him in death.

Laurel BENTLEY rites Saturday

A memorial service for Laurel P. BENTLEY, who died Wednesday night at Jefferson County Hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Interment of ashes will be at a later date.

Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church and the Fairfield Public Library.
