Burial services will be held Tuesday in Evergreen Cemetery for Margaret BENDA, 76, native of the Brighton Community.
She died Sunday at the Ottumwa Nursing Home in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA). Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ottumwa. The casket will be brought to Evergreen Cemetery following the services in Ottumwa.
Prayers for a Christian Wake will be held this evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel in Ottumwa.
Margaret BENDA was born Dec. 18, 1906, at Brighton. She was the daughter of Joseph and Pauline GLANZMAN BUREKER.
She was first married to Merle PICKEN in 1931 at Fairfield. He died in 1934. She was later married to Francis BENDA at Ottumwa. He died in 1982.
Mrs. BENDA was a retired school teacher having taught in Pleasant Plain and the Ottumwa schools prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ottumwa.
She is survived by two daughters, Sister Elizabeth PICKEN C.J., who resides in Plymouth, Mich. and Carol HAMLIN, Canoga Park, Calif.; one step-daughter, Barbara DeTAEYE, Davenport; several grandchildren; a sister, Caroline JOHNSON, Des Moines; two brothers, Randolph BUREKER, Calif., and Joseph BUREKER, Ga.
