P. C. BELL, Former Fairfielder, Dies Aboard Airliner

Paul C. BELL, former resident of Fairfield, died suddenly in a TWA airliner Monday about ten minutes after the huge plane had taken off from the Chicago airport. He was on his way to Albuquerque, N. M., to visit his mother and sister.

The plane returned to the Chicago airport where it was held until a coroner's investigation was carried out.

BELL had been ill at his home in Ottumwa for the past week, and his doctor had released him for a short vacation. He left Ottumwa by plane yesterday morning for Chicago, and boarded the plane for Albuquerque shortly after noon. He died ten minutes later.

The body will arrive in Fairfield at 7 a.m. Wednesday. Last rites will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Paul C. BELL, 51, was born Feb. 8, 1906, in Fairfield, the son of Clyde and Mable ABRAHAM BELL. He was reared and educated in this community, graduating from the Fairfield high school with the class of 1925. He was a member of the Fairfield Elks lodge and the Methodist church in Ottumwa.

For the past 15 years he had been employed by the Seig-Ottumwa company in Ottumwa, and called on several customers in Fairfield each week.

He is survived by three sons, Richard, Ronald and Steven BELL, all of Ottumwa, his mother, Mrs. Mable FRY, Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Carlos WATSON, Richland, and Mrs. Gerald SNUGGS, Albuquerque, N. M.; and a brother, Harold BELL, Fort Worth, Tex.

His mother has been visiting her daughter in Albuquerque and he was on his way to visit them when he was stricken.

He was preceded in death by his father.
