Death came last night to a well known resident of Fairfield who passed away about 7 p.m. at the Jefferson county hospital after a brief illness.
She is Mrs. Mamie BELL, 76, who took seriously ill about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, and was taken to the hospital from her home, 311 W. Burlington St. She had been in failing health for some time. Reports said her death was caused by a heart ailment.
Last rites will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. She had requested no flowers.
Mamie BELL was born March 16, 1874, in Clark county, Iowa, the daughter of the late S. C. and Etta COCHRAN CRANE. When a small child the family moved to a farm near Glasgow, when she was 15 years old the family moved to Fairfield.
On September 20, 1893, she was united in marriage to E. B. BELL who passed away July 9, 1940. The couple had made their home in Des Moines for several years prior to his death.
After her husband passed away, Mrs. BELL returned to Fairfield to make her home and had lived in this community since. She had many friends here and her family was well known. Her father, S. C. CRANE, served as sheriff of Jefferson county from 1889 to 1893.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Dave BLOUGH, and a nephew, Everett BLOUGH, Libertyville.
