Page 3, Column 8Mr. Editor:--The feelings of our community were very deeply stirred by the announcement of the death of little Beulah, youngest daughter of David and Lizzie BECK.
This sad event occurred on Saturday afternoon, after a severe illness of a few days.-- The deceased was an unusually interesting child. She was very bright, and won the hearts of all by her amiable traits of character, and remarkable propriety of demeanor.-- She was a faithful member of the Methodist Sabbath School, and manifested her love for it in a striking manner during her last illness. It is especially saddening to contemplate the timely death of the young, in the gladsome springtide, when the animate and inanimate creation is teeming with life. But no reason is so suggestion of the resurrection, and none impresses us so comfortingly that the grave will not retain forever the body which we consign to it for a brief period only, but that a newer, larger, fuller, happier life lies beyond its dark confines. In the full assurance of faith, which triumphs over death ever, and which is peculiarly buoyant at Easter, we can say, "it is well with the child."
We join the general sorrow at the loss of our little friend, and in the profound sympathy of all with the bereaved parents.
"Her childlike eyes still lacked their crowning sweetness,
Her form was ripening to more perfect grace.
She died with the pathetic incompleteness
Of beauty's promise on her pallid face."R. J. S.
