MISS MARY BEAN DIED THIS MORNING

Miss Mary BEAN, a sister of the late Dr. J. V. BEAN, passed away this morning at the Jefferson County hospital, after an illness of more than three years.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at four o'clock at the Davies Funeral home in charge of Rev. H. Sears Thomson, and interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.

… We attended the funeral recently of our old time friend and teacher, Miss Mary BEAN, of Fairfield. She taught the Beckwith school in the '80s and was one of those dear, kind patient souls who was always doing good and even helping us scholars in every way possible. Dr. Montgomery paid her a fitting tribute. She had been a patient sufferer for many years. But her life work has not been in vain, for the good lessoins (sic) that she has instilled in the minds of her pupils will never be forgotten. …

Note: Buried in Lot 2nd.240. Born in 1852 according to her gravestone, however the 1900 census says she was born in October, 1853. Her death certificate only notes "Oct" for a birthdate, with her age listed as 68 years, 0 months, 0 days. She was the daughter of Asa A. and Mary POWELL BEAN.
