Died of His Injuries.

Nearly a month ago Michael BAUM, an aged resident of this city, fell from a carpenter's scaffold while working about his home and sustained injuries from the effect of which he died Thursday. Mr. BAUM had resided in Jefferson county since 1851, his home being on a farm in Round Prairie township before his removal to this city. He was born in Strassburg, France, October 15th, 1830, and came to the united States when a lad of ten years. His home was at Portsmouth, O., before his removal to Iowa. He was married to Sarah ARCHIBALD in 1851, and his aged wife and one daughter, Mrs. Florence FARMER of this city, survive him. Mr. BAUM was an excellent man and citizen and was held in the highest esteem in the communities in which he had lived in this country. His remains were interred Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the Christian church by Rev. Leander Lane. The body was interred with the rites of Odd Fellowship and nearly a hundred members of that order attended the services.

Obituary.

Michael BAUM was born in France, near Strassburg, Oct. 15, 1830. He came to America in 1840 and grew up to manhood in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was married to Sarah ARCHIBALD, Jan. 16, 1851. Of this union there were born five children, one son and four daughters, only one of whom, a daughter, Mrs. Florence FARMER, survives him. Three of the children died in infancy and another, Mrs. Jane TAYLOR, in 1898. His widow remains, awaiting a re-union on the other shore.

Mr. BAUM came to Iowa in 1852. He united with the Free Will Baptist church in Henry Co. Oct. 1879 and with the Christian church in the same county, in the early part of 1883.

He removed to Fairfield in 1889, and on Dec. 8th of that year placed his membership in the Christian church of this city, of which he was a faithful and consistent member until his death.

He has filled the offices of deacon and elder in the church. To the latter office he was elected Dec. 30th 1896 and held it when he died.

He was an affectionate husband and faithful in all his relations as such, a loving father, a kind friend loved and esteemed by all who knew him. As a christian, faithful, prayerful and trustful. He was constant in his attendance at the Lord's Day services and Sunday school and prayer meeting.

He was a faithful member of the Odd Fellow lodge No. 4 of this city and very fraternal in all his relations with its members, It can truly be said of him, "He was a good man and full of the Holy Spirit.

He died Thursday, May 30th at 5 p.m. in his 72nd year. "Dust to dust," may be said of the body but "his spirit has gone to God who gave it."

"There is a land the beautiful of lands,
Beside its ancient portals
A silent sentry stands,
He only can undo it
And open wide the door,
And mortals who pass through it
Are mortals never more.'

The funeral services were held from the Christian church at 3 p.m. Sunday June 2d, under the auspices of the Odd Fellows of this city. The funeral was largely attended by citizens generally. The pastor conducted the services assisted by Rev. J. A. Raines. The interment was in Evergreen cemetery. L. L.
