W. H. BATES IS DEAD; LIVED IN CITY 16 YEARS
Funeral at 2 O'clock Monday From Christian Church

William Henry BATES, a resident of Fairfield for the past 16 years, passed away at 3:30 o'clock this morning at the Jefferson county hospital. He underwent an operation two weeks ago and his condition was some what improved until the last few days when a weakened heart resulted in his death.

The body was taken to the Hoskins Funeral Home. Services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the First Christian church in charge of Rev. S. P. Williamson and interment made in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. BATES home at the time of his death was at 412 North B street. He was born in Iowa, on April 11, 1851, and is survived by his wife and two sons, Ernest and Ralph, both of Fairfield and two grandchildren, Roy Leslie and Dorothy Mae. He also leaves three brothers, Perry O. and Ed. A. BATES of Fairfield, and James K. BATES of Tekamah, Neb.

BATES FUNERAL WAS HELD HERE
Rev. Williamson Had Charge of Services At Christian Church

Funeral services for William H. BATES, who passed away at the Jefferson county hospital early Saturday morning following an operation, were held at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon from the First Christian church. Rev. S. P. Williamson officiated at the last rites.

Mrs. L. W. Van Nostrant and Miss Jo Starr sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," "Sweet By and By" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" accompanied on the piano by Mrs. William Stever.

The casket attendants were nephews, namely, Carl, Verne, Glen, Marley, Clifford and Parry M. BATES, all of Fairfield. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. BATES' home at the time of his death was at 412 North B street. Note: Buried in Lot 2nd.178. William was married twice, first to Mary Eva CARTER who died in 1884 and is buried in Antioch Cemetery, second to Ella Keats DAVIS who died in 1950. Ella subsequently married to Ansel BERRAY, but is buried with William.
