Rodger K. BATES

Rodger K. BATES, 74, 806 W. Briggs Ave., died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 1994, at Jefferson County Hospital.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Howard Innis officiating. Visitation is open from noon to 5 p.m. today at Behner Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to Community Childcare Center, 611 W. Jackson Ave.

BATES was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Fairfield, the son of Victor and Mary E. RODGERS BATES. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1936. On July 2, 1941, he married Mildred GOODWIN in Kahoka, Mo. A Fairfield resident all of his life, he was a leadman and welder for Loudens and Acco for 43 1/2 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Southeast Iowa Pigeon Club.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Ronnie of Canyon City, Calif., Randall of Fairfield; three grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth of Stockton, Kan. His parents and a grandson preceded him in death.
