Ralph R. BATES Taken In Death

Ralph R. BATES, 68, who had served as district court bailiff for the past eight years, died at 7:40 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson County Hospital. He had undergone surgery on Monday.

The body is at the Raymond Funeral Home where last rites are pending.

Ralph R. BATES was born August 2, 1892, on a farm north of Fairfield, the son of William and Ella Keats DAVIS BATES. He was reared and educated in Fairfield and the Burlington Business College.

He had lived in Fairfield and Jefferson County his entire life. The family home is at 300 Wilson Blvd. He was a member of the Methodist Church, the K of P Lodge, and had served as bailiff of the Jefferson County district Court since Feb. 1, 1959. He was a retired factory employe and also operated a service station for a number of years.

BATES was married to Vera BRIAR on Aug. 12, 1913. Following her death he was married to Laurine THOMAS on Jan. 30, 1918. Following her death he married Bernadine COFFIN at Lancaster, Mo., on Aug. 8, 1928. She survives.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Lt. Col. Roy L. BATES, fort Hood, Texas; four grandchildren and a half-brother, Ernest BATES, Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy, who died in 1955, and three brothers.

BATES Funeral Will Be Monday

Last rites for Ralph R. BATES will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Ned Gillum officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. K of P services will be conducted at the grave.

BATES, who had served as bailiff for the Jefferson County District Court since 1959, passed away about 7:40 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson County Hospital where he underwent surgery on Monday.

BATES was a native of Jefferson County and spent his entire life in this community. The family home is at 300 Wilson Blvd.

NOTICE OF PROBATE OF WILL, OF APPOINTMENT OF EXECUTOR, AND NOTICE TO CREDITORS

In The District Court Of The State Of Iowa In And For Jefferson County

In The Matter Of The Estate Of Ralph R. BATES, Deceased.

To All Persons Interested In The Estate Of Ralph R. BATES Deceased:

You are hereby notified that on the 21st day of March, 1967, the last will and testament of Ralph R. BATES deceased bearing date of the 8th day of April, 1957, was admitted to probate in the above named court and that Bernadine B. BATES was appointed executor of said estate.

Notice is further given that any action to set aside said will must be brought in the district court of said county within one year from the date of the second publication of his notice, or thereafter be forever barred.

Notice is further given that all persons indebted to said estate are requested to make immediate payment to the undersigned, and creditors having claims against said estate shall file them with the clerk of the above named district court, as provided by law, duly authenticated, for allowance; and unless so filed within six months from the second publication of his notice (unless otherwise allowed or paid) such claim shall thereafter be forever barred.
