MRS. P. O. BATES DIES IN WEST
Body will be Returned To Fairfield for Funeral Services

Mrs. Perry O. BATES, former well known Fairfield resident, died yesterday at 7:00 a.m. in Hollister, Calif., after having been seriously ill for the past week. She had been in poor health for some time, having gone to California about four years ago from here.

The body will arrive in Fairfield Tuesday midnight; and the funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Fairfield, the place to be announced later.

She is survived by the following children, Carl, Vern, and Glenn all of Fairfield; Mrs. Vera HOOVER of Davenport and Charles and Edna in California.

Her husband also survives.

Funeral Services For Mrs. BATES On Thursday, 2 p.m.

Funeral services for Mrs. Perry O. BATES will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the First Methodist church. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery here. The body will arrive over the Rock Island at midnight tonight. She died Friday morning at Hollister Calif.

COMPLETE FUNERAL SERVICE PLANS FOR MRS. P. O. BATES

The body of Mrs. Perry O. BATES who died in California arrived in Fairfield last night. The funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Methodist church. The body will be taken from the Hoskins funeral home to the church at 1:00 p.m. The services will be in charge of Dr. U. S. Smith, and Rev. S. P. Williamson. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

MRS. PERRY O. BATES

Bertha Belle WALKER (sic - WELKER) was born June 23rd, 1867 at Troy, Davis County, Iowa. She was married February 16th 1866 to Perry O. BATES at Fairfield, Iowa on the tenth wedding anniversary of his sister, Mrs. J. J. HUTCHINSON at her home. To them were born seven children: Mrs. B. R. LOOFBOURROW of Hollister, Calif., Carl H., Vernon W. and Glen V. all of Fairfield, Iowa; Mrs. Vera HOOVER of Davenport, Iowa and Charles C. BATES of Mauteca, Cal. one son Arthur Meredith died in infancy.

She lived almost all her married life on a farm near Fairfield, moving to that city about 15 years ago and she was never able to return to her native state. She passed away in Holister, Calif., Friday morning, Sept. 6th 1935 at seven o'clock a.m. Services were held in that city Saturday, Sept. 7th at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Nichols pastor of the Christian church officiating, assisted by Rev. Clark, pastor of M. E. church. Mrs. Harper sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "I will Meet You in the Morning." The body was then brought back to Fairfield, Iowa where services were held at the M .E. (sic) church, Rev. Smith, pastor of that church officiating, assisted by Rev. Williamson pastor of the Christian church. Mrs. Van Nostrand and Mrs. Stever sang "Gathering Home," "Looking This Way," and "Asleep in Jesus." Many beautiful floral offerings, showing the love and esteem held for her, were presented at both services.

She was a life long member of the M. E. church and for a number of years was Superintendent of the West End Mission at Fairfield, Iowa. She was of a sweet, patient disposition, bearing bravely her many years of suffering. Almost her last words were "I left it all with Jesus long ago."

She has three living sisters, Mrs. Nancy CARTER of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Salonie BURSCH, Buffalo, Kansas, Mrs. Ellen HELM, Ponca City, Okla. Two brothers John WALKER (sic), Longmont, Colo. and Henry WALKER Lincoln, Nebr. She has nine grand-children: Dwight, Harold and Perry LOOFBOURROW, Edna, Maxine, Quentin, Floyd and Alice BATES and Richard HOOVER. Her sister, Mrs. Ellen HELM and daughter, Mrs. Anna SIMMONS from Ponca City, Okla attended the funeral in Fairfield also the daughters Mrs. Edna LOOFBOURROW, from Hollister, Calif. and Mrs Vera HOOVER from Davenport and Mr. and Mrs. Miles Bradford and son Carmen from Ottumwa, Iowa.
