Carla Raye BARR, 18, dies

Carla Raye BARR, 18, 606 W. Monroe, died at 10 a.m. Thursday at University Hospitals in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

She was diagnosed as having leukemia in October 1986 and underwent a successful bone marrow transplant operation April 23.

Miss BARR was born Sept. 2, 1969 in Fairfield to Judith Yvonne ANGSTEAD BARR and Carl William BARR. She lived her entire life in Fairfield and made her home with her mother.

She was a member of the Fairfield High School graduating class of 1987. While in high school, she was active in the Financial Manager Group and tutored other students in reading lab.

Miss BARR was a member of the Assembly of God Church and worked at Sizzling Sam's Restaurant.

She is survived by her mother, Judith Y. BARR, Fairfield; her father, Carl W. BARR, Fairfield; three sisters, Melissa WATSON, Lockridge; Joyce BROBSTON, Des Moines; and Nancy CLINE, Richland; one niece, Jessica CLINE; and one nephew, Joshua WATSON.

Also surviving are her maternal grandparents: Glen B. and Ann ANGSTEAD, Fairfield; paternal grandfather, Ray BARR, Ottumwa; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother.

Funeral services for Miss BARR will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Revs. Steve Higdon, Kermit Black and Donald Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Raymond Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at noon Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the bone marrow transplant program at University Hospitals or the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City, and may be left at the funeral home.

BARR correction

An obituary for Carla Raye BARR in Friday's paper incorrectly listed Miss BARR's survivors.

Miss BARR's survivors include her paternal grandfather, Luther BARR, of Burlington, and her great-grandfather, Ray BARR, of Ottumwa.
