F. A. BARNETT SUCCUMBS TO HEART ATTACK
Died suddenly this morning in yard at 500 South Fifth street

Francis Arthur BARNETT, better known as "Barney" BARNETT by those who knew him, died suddenly this morning about 9:00 a.m. of a heart attack. It was stated that Mr. BARNETT was chasing a chicken in the back yard of the property at 500 South Fifth street when he was stricken.

Mr. BARNETT was born April 19, 1874, near Germanville. He had spent practically his entire life in Jefferson county. For the past several years he had lived at 402 West Madison street. He was a custom butcher and was well known throughout the county through his trade.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Robert JOHNSON, Fairfield; Myrtle Marie and Jessie at home; and one son, John BARNETT of this city. Two grandchildren, Kathryn and Sonny JOHNSON also survive.

The body was taken to the Hoskins funeral home where funeral arrangements are pending. Coroner Jack Raymond and Sheriff H. F. Goodale were called to the scene but it was stated that no inquest would be held.

OBITUARY

Francis Arthur BARNETT

Francis Arthur, youngest and last surviving of the three children of John E. and Hannah Louisa BARNETT was born near the Merrimac community in Jefferson county on April 19, 1874. He passed away at his home near Fairfield, Ia., on Thursday, Oct. 15th, 1942, when past 68 years of age.

On January 30, 1901, he was married to Myrtle BRERETON and had lived happily in this union since. Four children were born to them all of whom survive. The loved ones who mourn his passing are his sorrowing wife, his three daughters, Mrs. Hazel JOHNSON, Myrtle Marie and Jessie Florence, and his son John William all of Fairfield. There are two grandchildren, Kathryn and Robert Earl JOHNSON. Besides these there are a large number of close relatives and friends who will mourn his death.

Mr. BARNETT had been a resident of Fairfield for the past 24 years and was well known for friendly ways and good character. He professed his faith in Christ in the Sunday meetings held in Fairfield in 1907. His death was unexpected and a shock to all. He was stricken soon after 9 o'clock and died immediately. He will be remembered for his honesty and quiet friendliness by a wide circle of Fairfield and Jefferson county people whom he had conscientiously served for many years and who held him in the highest respect and regard.

Funeral services were held from the Hoskins Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, conducted by S. P. Williamson, minister of the First Christian church. The hymns, "In the Garden," "Some Day We'll Understand," and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," were sung by Mrs. S. P. Williamson, and Miss Martha Calhoun with Miss Reva Patten at the piano. Pallbearers were nephews, Clyde BRERETON, Glenn BRERETON, Harold BRERETON, Hollis BRERETON, Myron METZ and Wilbur FETTERMAN. The body was laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.
