DEATH CLAIMS H. D. BARNETT
Injuries Received Five Weeks Ago Prove Fatal

Hugh Dell BARNETT, who suffered severe injuries five weeks ago when he fell from a second floor porch at Mt. Pleasant, passed away at the Jefferson County Hospital at nine o'clock last night without ever regaining consciousness.

The body was taken to the Hoskins Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.

Mr. BARNETT was born in Illinois, Jauary (sic) 8, 1895. He and his family moved to Fairfield from Keosauqua about two years ago. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Myra Catherine, Norma Jean and Lewis DUCKWORTH, all at home. They make their home at 1001 West Hempstead street. He also leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett BARNETT, 303 North Sixth street, one brother Elmer and a sister, Mrs. Gladys NcNEESE also of this city.

BARNETT RITES HELD THURSDAY
Funeral Held With American Legion Honors; Interment Evergreen

Many relatives and friends gathered at the Hoskins Funeral Home at 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon to pay their last respects to Hugh Dell BARNETT, who passed away at the Jefferson County Hospital Monday, following a weeks' illness.

Funeral services were held with American Legion honors, with the firing squad in charge of Capt. Charles T. McCampbell. Rev. Fred G. Crown of the First Baptist church officiated at the last rites. Ray Mulkins sang "Going Down the Valley" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."

Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.

Hugh Dell BARNETT, son of E. T. and Myra BARNETT of Fairfield Iowa, was born January 8, 1895, at Colbrook, Ill., Warren county, and passed away November 30, 1931, aged 36 years, 10 months and 22 days. The earlier part of his life was spent in Illinois and the latter part in the state of zIowa.

In 1917 he enlisted in the U. S. Navy, spending one year and nine months in the service, nine months of which was spent over seas..

He united with the Christian church at the age of twelve. He had numerous friends and was loved by all who knew him.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Caroline, and the following children: Myra Katherine, Norma Jean and Lewis DUCKWORTH, all at home. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. (sic - Emmett Tipton) BARNETT, one brother, Elmer, and a sister, Mrs. Gladys McNEESE, also reside in Fairfield, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Note: Buried in Lot 2nd.275. Wife Caroline Louise WEISSGERBER was first married to William A. DUCKWORTH, who died in 1917. She and Hugh married in 1919, and she subsequently married Alex SMITH; she died in 1980 and is buried in CA with Alex.
