Services pending for ex-Fairfielder

WATERLOO -- Rites are pending for Chester BARNETT of Waterloo, formerly of Fairfield, who died Friday. Surviving are nieces Pat MORRISON and Willa NELSON, and sister-in-law Berdina METZ, all of Fairfield. He will be buried in Fairfield.

BARNETT burial in Fairfield

WATERLOO -- Services for former Fairfielder Chester BARNETT, 73, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield at 3:30 p.m.

He died Friday afternoon at Covenant Medical Center, St. Francis.

BARNETT was born Oct. 24, 1912, in Kewanee, Ill., the son of Oscar and Bertha GOULD BARNETT. He married Alvena KNAUSS at Algona, Ind., Aug. 10, 1954.

He was an appliance salesman for Sears-Roebuck, Woolco and Montgomery Ward before retiring in 1977. He also was a World War II veteran.

Surviving are his wife; son Edward, Tucson, Ariz.; daughter Ella Mae FLETCHER, Waterloo; two brothers, Paul, Ormond Beach, Fla., and Russell, Beloit, Wis.; and a sister, Betty PALMER, Waterloo.

BARNETT was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Kearns-Dykema Funeral Chapel, Waterloo, is handling the arrangements.

A memorial has been established to the church or to Becker-Chapman Post No. 138 American Legion, Waterloo.

Note: Chester was married twice. His first wife was Emma Jane McNEESE who died in 1954 and with whom he is buried, in Lot 3rd.162. His second wife was Alvena V. KNAUSS BARNETT WILSON; this was her third marriage. She is also buried in Evergreen Cemetery, but in the second addition.
