She Died in Kansas.

The remains of Mrs. Sarah J. BARNES, wife of Samuel BARNES, were brought to this city for interment Monday night from Washington, Kansas. The good woman passed away Sunday, after an illness which dated back to December. Mrs. BARNES was born at Mansfield, Ohio, July 14th, 1836, and grew to mature years there. She was married at that place August 30th, 1855, and came at once to this city wit her husband. Six children were born to them, five of whom are living in Kansas and Nebraska. The family removed from this city to Kansas in September, 1877, and its members have resided at Washington for several years past. Mrs. BARNES was a devoted wife and mother, and was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends and neighbors. Funeral service were held in this city Tuesday morning, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Guilan BEATTY, and the remains were borne to the grave by old time friends. Rev. E. L. Schreiner, pastor of the first Methodist church, had charge of the exercises.

A Former Resident Dies.

The remains of Mrs. Sarah Jane BARNES, wife of Samuel BARNES, of Washington, Kansas, were brought to this city for burial Tuesday morning at four o'clock. Mrs. BARNES was well known to quite a number of people in this city, having lived here a number of years ago. Deceased was a native of Ohio and was born in 1836. She was married to Samuel BARNES August 30, 1855, and came to Iowa in the fall of the same year, locating in Fairfield. Here they lived until 1877 when they removed to Washington, Kansas, where they have since lived. Six children were born to them, one, a boy, dying during their residence here. Three girls and two boys survive. Mrs. BARNES had been in poor health for about a year and had been confined to her bed most of the time since last December with a disease of the stomach. She died Sunday afternoon, June 16th, at 5:45 o'clock. Mr. BARNES and one daughter accompanied the remains to this city. A funeral service was held at the home of Mr. Guilan BEATTY Tuesday morning at ten o'clock, Rev. E. L. Schreiner having charge.

Note: Buried in Lot Old.P.366 with husband Samuel who died in 1907. Sarah's maiden name was RAITT. Although the obituary gives the year of her birth as 1836, on her gravestone it's 1837.
