LIFE OF MRS. ERNEST BAILEY

Carrie Bartlett PARSONS, second child of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. PARSONS, was born in Big Rock, Iowa, October 9, 1886. After an illness of but three days, following an operation, she passed from this life at the Jefferson County hospital, at 11:30 o'clock, Sunday morning, January 9th, aged thirty-four years and three months

The deceased came to Fairfield with her parents in 1902, and has since resided here. On the twenty-first anniversary of her birth, October 9, 1907, she was united in marriage to Ernest P. BAILEY. To this union two children were born, Bruce, age twelve, and Helen Leona, who died in infancy. Her father, and one sister Mrs. Mae CHAMBERS, have also preceded her into the great beyond.

Besides her husband and son, the following immediate relatives survive: the mother, Mrs. Nettie PARSONS, four sisters, Mrs. Aurelia HYDE, of Grand Junction, Colo., Mrs. Grace RIDDLE of Davenport, Mrs. Helen GALLUP, of Libertyville, and Wilma, at home; and one brother, Perry PARSONS, of this city.

As a girl the deceased was all that a mother heart could desire; as a wife and mother she made and graced her home after the manner of the woman the immortal praises of whom King Lemuel sings in the last chapter of the book of Proverbs. In his words, "Her child shall grow up to call her blessed, and her husband also, he praiseth her." As Whittier sang so sweetly of his sister, so may they sing of her:

"The blessings of her quiet life fell on us like the dew,
And good thoughts where her footsteps pressed like fairy blossoms grew."

As a member of the church and Sunday school, Mrs. BAILEY was a worker of the quiet type, content to do the work for the work's sake, without ostentation and display. At the time of her death she was the Cradle Roll superintendent and until a few months ago, when the condition of her health necessitated her giving it up was the devoted and excellent teacher of the boys of the Sunshine class.

She also rendered much able assistance to her husband, for a number of years past, the financial secretary of the church.

So she wrought and performed her labors of love in home and church so she fitted herself for greater works and more excellent service in the presence of the Master.

"Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord; yea, saith the Spirit, and their works do follow them."
