COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE.

OBITUARY.

Editors Ledger:--Mrs. Maria D. BABBITT died at the residence of S. E. CHIDESTER in Blackhawk township, Wednesday, April 8th, 1891. Although she had been in feeble health for some time, having suffered from an attack of la grippe a year ago, from which she had never fully recovered, yet her death comes as a great shock to her many friends. Mrs. BABBITT was a daughter of Rev. D. D. DEVOE and Eva WERNSER, was born in Albany county, N. Y., November 15th, 1808, and was the widow of Charles BABBITT. For a number of years she yielded to the persuasion of her children and has since made her home with her daughter, Mrs. S. E. CHIDESTER, except a few months which she spent with her other children, Mrs. L. C. SCOTT and R. J. BABBITT of Osceola. Upon her removal to this county she united with the Congregational church of this city. The many friends of the deceased, both here and in her former home, those who knew her and esteemed her as a christian woman and kind friend, will sorrow with the family in its affliction. The remains were interred in the Evergreen cemetery, Rev. H. L. Marsh, pastor of the Congregational church, conducting the services. Of a truth it could be said of our friend that after a well spent life here she had gone to inherit the kingdom prepared for her.
