Had Miss Harriett Emma BABBITT, who died at nine o'clock, lived another year, she would have rounded out a full century. She was born in New York state, October 7, 1822.
Miss BABBITT passed away at the home of her niece (sic), Mrs. Earnest SMITH who lives four miles southwest of this city. Her death was due to old age.
The funeral services will be held from the Kerrick undertaking parlors tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock. The services will be in charge of Rev. R. H. Polly of the Christian church. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery.

Miss Harriett E. BABBITT, daughter of Ephrsus and Angelina BABBITT, was born at Norway, Herkimer county, New York, October 7, 1822, and departed this life at the home of her neice, Mrs. Earnest SMITH, near Libertyville, Iowa, March 17, 1921, at the advanced ate of ninety-eight years, six months and ten days.
In 1858 she moved to Illinois, living in Houseville, Rock Island and Atkinson. In 1885 she, with her brother, George, moved to Osakis, Minn., fhere (sic - where) she resided until a year and a half ago, when she came to make her home with her neice. When over ninety years of age she and her brother, George, four years her junior made the trip alone to Oakland, California, coming home by Phoenix, Arizona.
Miss BABBITT was the oldest and last remaining member of a family of five children. For many years she was a successful teacher. She was always a great reader and possessed a large library which she prized very highly. She was a great admirer of Dickens and could call to mind any of his works even at her advanced age. Her memory was remarkably clear to the last.
Most of her relatives reside in the east. The only ones lving (sic) here are: Mrs. Lucy CHIDESTER, a cousin, living near Packwood, and Mrs. Earnest SMITH near Libertyville, a neice and the daughter of Willis BENNETT of Fairfield.
Funeral services were held from Kerrick's undertaking parlors, Friday March 18, 1921 at two o'clock, and were conducted by R. H. Polly, pastor of the Christian church. Interment was made in the Evergreen cemetery.

… Two deaths occurred here last week. One was Miss Harriett BABBITT who passed away at the home of her niece, Mrs. Ernest SMITH, north of town. Miss BABBITT was born in New York state, October 7, 1822 and passed away Thursday morning, March 17 at the age of 98 years, 5 months and 10 days, after an illness of nine weeks. Miss BABBITT came here eighteen months ago from Minnesota and has resided here ever since. She has one cousin near Packwood and besides her niece, Mrs. SMITH, she has no other near relatives.
