OTIS ANDERSON DIES SUDDENLY AT HOME HERE

Death came unexpectedly this morning to Otis R. ANDERSON, longtime factory employ and member of the Fairfield fire department for 27 years.

Last year he was forced to resign as chief of the fire department and to quit his post at the Louden Machinery company as his health failed him. He entered the hospital as a patient Aug. 19, 1951, and had been in ill health since.

Although he hadn't been well, his death was considered sudden this morning. He passed away at his home, 601 W. Burlington street, about 8:20 a.m.

Last rites will be Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with the Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

His resignation from the fire department effective Dec. 1, 1951, brought to a close a long period of experience as a fireman for the city of Fairfield. It dates back more than a quarter of a century, back to Feb. 20, 1924, when he first joined the department.

ANDERSON served as fire police for several years and was appointed assistant chief in January, 1949, the post he held until his resignation.

His resignation was accepted both by members of the fire department and the city council "with regrets" when he informed them he was forced to quit his duties as a fireman because of ill health. The resignation was accepted by the city council on Nov. 27, 1951.

ANDERSON started to work for the Louden Machinery company on March 12, 1920, and had continued to work for that firm until his retirement. When he retired he was foreman of the inspection department, a post he had held for several years.

Otis R. ANDERSON, 57, was born March 19, 1894, in Fairfield, the son of the late Andrew and Justina JOHNSON ANDERSON. He live his entire life in this community.

He was united in marriage 38 years ago to Mabel HUNT. She passed away Feb. 20, 1920. he was united in marriage to Julia RAMSAY on March 30, 1921.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mildred YEAST, Des Moines; one step-daughter, Blanche RAMSAY, at home and two grandchildren, James and Carolyn YEAST, Des Moines.

He is also survived by one brother, Harlan ANDERSON and two sisters, Mrs. James SHAW and Mrs. William TRAIL, all of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by a son, Verlin, who died Dec. 22, 1945; his father and mother, and a brother, Abner.
