BODY RECOVERED SUNDAY

Not until eight o'clock Sunday morning did searchers recover the body of Clarence ANDERSON from the waters of Cedar Creek where he lost his life late Saturday afternoon. The body was found by Perrin Reed about twenty feet below the scene of the accident.

The boy who was 13 years old (sic - 17), and lives with his parents north of Brookville was visiting Saturday with his sister Mrs. William HESTON who lives on one of the Stever farms a mile and a half west of town. In the afternoon about half past four o'clock, he and Mr. HESTON started with a wagon and team to look at some corn on the other side of the creek. Driving down through the pasture, they started to ford the creek which was about half bank full, at a point a ___te below old Krum. When in the middle of the stream the wagon box was swept from the geersand turned over (sic). Both men were swept into the water and the ANDERSON lad who could not swim, was seen by Mr. HESTON hanging onto one of the horses, but seemed to loosen his grip and was washed away. Mr. HESTON had great difficulty in reaching shore and could be of no assistance to the boy until too late. By the time help reached the scene which is a half mile from the nearest house, it was so dark that a thorough search for the body could not be made until Sunday morning.

In their struggles one of the horses became entangled in the harness and was thrown under the water and was drowned.

The funeral services of the unfortunate young man were held this afternoon at the home near Brookville.

CLARENCE ANDERSON MET DEATH BY DROWNING
Eighteen-Year-Old Son of Peter ANDERSON Drowned in Cedar Saturday afternoon

ATTEMPTED TO FORD STREAM WITH TEAM

Water Twelve Feet Deep Result of Heavy Rains; Body Recovered Sabbath Morning.

Clarence ANDERSON was drowned Saturday afternoon while attempting to ford Cedar creek at a point three miles west of the city. He is the 18-year-old son of Peter ANDERSON residing on the Hague farm northwest of town. He with his brother-in-law, Wm. HESTON attempted to ford the creek with a wagon load of corn. Owing to the heavy rains the water at this point was twelve feet deep and ANDERSON, who could not swim, was drowned. HESTON after a hard struggle reached the shore. One of the horses also escaped.

The body was found Sabbath morning after an all night search at a point some distance down stream from the place where the attempt to ford the stream was made.

The search was conducted by men in a wagon bed, which was propelled from the shore by means of ropes fastened to the make-shift boat. The men in the boat were equipped with grapplers.

The funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the parental Peter ANDERSON home northwest of the city, the Rev. Emil Swenson, of Lockridge, conducting them. Interment was made in the Evergreen cemetery.
