SALINA

… The entire community was shocked Wednesday to learn of the death of Mrs. T. B. ALLENDER which occurred in Fairfield Tuesday afternoon. There were a good many here who did not even know that she was sick. Her death came so unexpectedly to everyone. An-other good woman has been taken and another home is left without a mother. Mother is the dearest name on earth. This little verse of scripture comes to us, "Be ye also ready for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh."

Mrs. Annette MATTHEWS-ALLENDER.

Annette, the daughter of Linton and Amanda MATTHEWS, was born in Arizona, Burt County, Neb., Jan. 3, 1865. When she was but two weeks old her mother died. At that tender age she was taken by Mr. and Mrs. Asa CHILCOTT of this county, who reared her as one of their own children. She always called them father and mother. When she was sixteen years old her foster mother died. She was united in marriage to Thomas B. ALLENDER Feb. 24, 1887.

Three children were born to them, Merwyn, Wilma and Erma, who with the husband survive to sincerely mourn the great loss of a true wife and devoted mother. She is also survived by her father and one half sister, Mrs. G. L. CHANEY, of Siloam Springs, Ark., and by two foster sisters, Mrs. Martha McMULLEN of Tekamah, Neb., and Mrs. Belle BALYEAT of this city.

She became a christian when but twelve years of age and united with the Methodist church. The family resided in the country until 1902. when they moved to Fairfield. Mrs. ALLENDER transferred her membership to the First Methodist church of this city, being received June 2, 1906.

She lived for her family and this day they lay away their best earthly friend. Tears are upon many a face today because a true woman who was their friend is no more in the flesh. Quiet, reserved, generous, kind, devoted to friends, loyal to the right, she will be missed by her family and friends as one dependable, unselfish, tried and true, who said little but loved much. The days to come will bring to memory many a gracious deed performed by her for her family, for friend, neighbor and acquaintance, and all will gladly remember her through coming years as one unselfish and worthy, indeed(.)

She had not been in rugged health for some time but no one suspected how serious her malady was until she was taken ill one week ago and in spite of all that medical skill, love and affection could do, quietly slipped away to rest Tuesday, April 4, at 8:45 p.m.

The funeral services were held at the family residence on West Broadway, Thursday, April 6th, at 2:30 p.m., being conducted by her pastor, Rev. Thos. Osborn. The mortal remains were laid away in Evergreen Cemetery.
