Services for Gordon L. PAXTON, 64, of Route 1, Fairfield, who died Saturday at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA), will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Lenwood Monte officiating. Burial will be in the Wright Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 this evening. A memorial to the PAXTON family has been established.
PAXTON was born June 2, 1922, in Newtown, Mo., the son of Steve and Mary Lucinda BOYD PAXTON. He grew up in Newtown and graduated from Newtown High School. He married Irma M. EVERHART (sic - Irma M. DILLEHAY) in Council Bluffs April 21, 1955.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict). He worked in the Council Bluffs mail terminal until transferring to the post office in Marion where he worked as a postal clerk until his retirement in 1980.
They lived in the Cedar Rapids area from 1968 to 1980 when they moved to Fairfield. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Anamosa.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Donetta NEITERT of Greeley, Colo., and Mary TJADEN of Fairfield; one son, Bobby R. PAXTON of Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandchildren; three brothers, Rex PAXTON of Council Bluffs, Russell PAXTON of Princeton, Mo., and Harold PAXTON of Lucerne, Mo.; and one sister, Olive WILLIAMS of Lucerne, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two brothers and one sister.
