H. B. or better known as Brunson COX, passed away at Sewal, October 4, 1923. Mr. COX was one of the pioneers of Jefferson county, born in 1846 in Cedar township and but a distance of a few miles of where he was laid to his eternal rest. He being a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. COX, Sr. and he lived to see all of the immediate family laid to rest being at the time of his death the grand old age of 77 years. He had lived to see the ox team replaced by the automobile. While yet a resident of Jefferson county he had great sport in hunting and in 1878 he emigrated to Wayne county and still engaged in farming. About seven years ago he retired from the farm life and moved to Sewal where he made his home until his last illness came upon him he made a brave fight for life but death was the victor.

Mr. COX is spoken of by his neighbors and friends in Wayne county as being a prosperous and well to do man, one that was always generous and was always a friend to all and everything was done that could be done for him to alleviate his suffering in his illness and that the entire neighborhood felt that they had lost a friend indeed. Those from Sewal that were in attendance at the last services which were held from the home of Jack COX Saturday in Cedar township were Mr. A. A. Andrews and daughters Gladys, Phylis and Fay, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hamond and Mr. C. W. Reed.

Rev. Polly of the Christian church spoke comforting words. Mrs. Guy Fry at the piano and Mrs. Marshal Case and Mrs. Hubert Fry and Guy Fry sang "Jesuse (sic) Lover of My Soul", "Rock of Ages" and "Nearer My God to Thee" and all that was earthly of Brunson COX was laid to rest in the beautiful Wright cemetery beside other loved ones.
