OBITUARY.

Editors Ledger:--Willis COPELAND was born in Jefferson county, Indiana, April 30th, 1820, and died in Des Moines township, January 5th, 1895. He was united in marriage to Mary A. WILDMAN November 17th (sic - 16th), 1848. Of this union two children were born, George and Emma K. WAGNER. August 29th, 1871, his wife died, and he was married to Mrs. Carrie EVANS of Batavia September 30th, 1875, with whom he lived until his death. In April, 1855, he left his native state, came to Iowa and settled in Des Moines township, where he resided until February, 1894. At that time he removed to Libertyville, and there ended his mortal career. Mr. COPELAND was a quiet gentleman, and an upright and conscientious citizen. Respectful in his bearing toward his friends and neighbors, he was also careful in his business habits, as well as in his social relations. His health had gradually failed for some time, but he was a patient sufferer during his illness.

Death of Mr. Willis COPELAND.

The death of Willis COPELAND, of Des Moines township, occurred at his late residence Saturday, January 5th.

Willis COPELAND was born in Jefferson county, Pa., April 30, 1820. He was united in marriage with Mary A. WILDMAN in his native county November 16, 1848. There were born to his marriage two children, George and Mrs. Emma K. WAGNER. August 29, 1871, his wife died and on the 30th of September, 1875, he married Mrs. Carrie EVANS, of Batavia, with whom he lived until death separated them. He emigrated to this state and settled in Des Moines township in April, 1855. In February last he left his farm and moved to Libertyville where he ended his earthly life. Mt, (sic) COPELAND was a quiet, peaceable citizen, respectful in his bearing to friends and acquaintances. He was conscientiously careful in matters of business and he was highly respected by a large circle of acquaintences (sic). His funeral occurred at Mt. Zion church and his remains were laid to rest in the Winsell cemetery.
