Joe HAWK Dies At Hospital

Joe S. HAWK, 90, passed away about noon at the Jefferson county hospital.

The body was taken to the Weston Behner funeral home where last rites are pending.

HAWK's home is at 500 North B street.

HAWK Funeral To Be Sunday

Last rites for Joseph Stephen HAWK, 90, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Roland Crandall in charge. Burial will be in the Richwood cemetery northeast of Fairfield.

HAWK passed away about 11 a.m. Friday at the Jefferson county hospital where he had been a patient for a day and a half. The family home is at 500 North B.

Joseph S. HAWK was born Aug. 22, 1873, in the Richwood community, the son of Thomas and Mary Elizabeth RIDINGER HAWK.

He was married to Cora M. BATES on March 20, 1907, at Salina. He lived his entire life in Jefferson county. HAWK was a member of the Methodist church and moved to Fairfield in 1940.

In addition to his wife, HAWK is survived by the following children: Mrs. C. A. MOREHOUSE, Chula Vista, Calif.; Palmer HAWK, Fairfield; and Mrs. Fred P. CAREY, Iowa City. Six grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. He was the last of a family of 14 children.

HAWK Family Here For Rite

Among the out-of-towners coming for the funeral services of Joseph HAWK, 90, on Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred CAREY and Jerry CAREY of Iowa City; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph HAWK, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth HAWK and Ray HAWK, all of Bonaparte; Mr. and Mrs. James Stewart of Ottumwa; Bessie, Clifford and Charles JOHNSON, all of Peoria, Ill.

Mr. and Mrs. Milton BATES, Mrs. Leamie McClure and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce BATES, all of Elson; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest BATES of Douds.

Fireman Charles HAWK of the U.S. navy, stationed in Long Beach arrived for a 15 - day leave to attend his grandfather's funeral, and Janet HAWK, daughter of the Palmer HAWKs, came from college in Kirksville, Mo. She will also remain for the weekend.
