From Central Buchanan.

--Sadness and bereavement has been among us in the near past. The angel of death hath stretched forth his strong arm and taken from our midst some of our loved ones. Ulysses DOWNING, son of Anthony and Harriett DOWNING, was a victim of that terrible disease, diphtheria. He was about fourteen years old. In him we feel that we lost one of the hopes of the future; he was bright and promising, loved and esteemed by all who knew him. Then the angle (sic) reached his hand for Minnie Switzer and took her, too; but she met death calm and tranquil, biding an affectionate adieu to her friends before the death chill silenced her tongue, and like a flower just opening to life, she was taken from our admiring gaze. And again the angel stretched forth his hand and took within his mighty grasp little Minnie Bell DOWNING, aged about 18 months, taken like a bud when it has just began (sic) to come into the realization of life; but the angel said, "suffer her to come unto me, for such is the kingdom of Heaven."

Mortality.
