Mrs. Harriet DOWNING, widow of Anthony DOWNING, was stricken with paralysis at her home in Buchanan township Wednesday and died within twenty-four hours. She had been in ill health for several years. The remains were interred Saturday, Rev. G. W. Mapes conducting the funeral services. Harriet WAGNER was born in Monongalia county, West Virginia, August 19th, 1824. She was married to Anthony DOWNING, a pioneer settler of Jefferson county, with a residence dating back to 1839, September 1st, 1860. Two children were born of this union, one of whom, W. F. DOWNING, at whose home the mother died, is now living. The husband passed away December 9th, 1880 (sic - Dec. 23d, 1880). Mrs. DOWNING was a most excellent woman, and bore the esteem of a wide circle of acquaintances in Jefferson county. She was a loving wife and mother, a kind neighbor and a true friend.
