Death of Mrs. DOWNING.

A death under peculiarly sad circumstances was that of Mrs. W. F. DOWNING, which occurred in Buchanan township, northeast of this city, on Sunday afternoon. Perhaps two weeks ago she gave birth to a child and almost immediately was attacked by scarlet fever in a malignant form. The most skillful treatment and careful attention seemed to avail nothing in her case, and she passed away after a brief illness. Clarinda M. DOWNING was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John HUPP, well known residents of Locust Grove township, and was married February 6th, 1889. She was a most estimable young woman, and had many warm friends in both her old and new homes. The sympathies of the community will go out to her bereaved husband and parents. Her remains were interred in the Richwoods cemetery Monday, the funeral being strictly private.
