Passes Away After an Illness of Two Weeks--Funeral at M.E. Church.Mrs. Jane VAN WINKLE, wife of W. L. VAN WINKLE, died on Monday morning about seven o'clock, after an illness of two weeks' duration. She was taken with a chill, which was followed by convulsions, the seat of the distress being located in her chest, but later symptoms developed indicating cerebro-spinal disease. She grew gradually worse, and Sunday evening became unconscious, remaining in this condition until death supervened.
The funeral was held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, the pastor. Rev. John Eldridge, officiating, and interment being made in the Goodland cemetery. Rev. Eldridge took for his text, 2 Corinthians, 4:17:18. The hymns selected and sung were, "Abide With Me," and "Asleep in Jesus." A very large audience was present and a large funeral cortage (sic) accompanied the remains to the cemetery, where they were deposited in a new brick vault. Profuse floral tributes were laid upon the casket, and the beautiful ritual of the Methodist church was used. The ladies of the Kanorado Woman's Relief corps, of which she was a member, were present at the funeral and took part in the obsequies, in conformity with their customs on such occasions.

Jane RIZOR VAN WINKLE was born in Holmes county, Ohio, October 30, 1844, and died at Goodland, Kansas, February 20, 1905, being in the sixty-first year of her age.
When eight years of age she removed with her parents to Jefferson county, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood, and where both her parents died. She was married to W. L. VAN WINKLE October 2, 1867 (sic - Oct. 3, 1867 per county records), and in 1883 they moved to Osceola county, Iowa, where they resided until June 1, 1886, when the emigrated to Sherman county, settling on a homestead in the northwest part of the county. Here they resided for 17 years, but in November, 1903, on account of the bad health of both Mr. and Mrs. VAN WINKLE, they removed to Goodland.
Mrs. VAN WINKLE leaves a husband to mourn her loss, and also one son, Frank E. VANWINKLE, three daughters, Mrs. Ella ARENDT, Mrs. Jessie BAKER and Miss Ezza VAN WINKLE. Two little sons, dying in infancy, preceded her to the spirit land. Three sisters and two brothers survive her, one sister living in Goodland, one in Ottumwa, Iowa, and one at Flat Head Lake, Montana. Her two brothers reside in Baker City, Oregon.
Mrs. VAN WINKLE will long be remembered for her quiet and amiable character. She was a devoted wife and mother. The home was her peculiar sphere of usefulness, her realm where kindness smiled and love reigned. Those who enjoyed the privilege of her acquaintance and shared the hospitality of her home speak in the highest terms of her kindness. By her own family circle her memory will be cherished as a sacred legacy, and "mother" will be enshrined in the heart's dearest and most sacred sanctuary.
