COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE.

Glendale.

… The sickness and death of Mrs. PARSONS brought a number of strangers here--Mrs. H. B. WHITE of Kansas, J. R. PARSONS of Nebraska, Louis L. PARSONS of Kansas, James, Jerome and Perry PARSONS of Wayne county. …

DEATH OF MRS. PARSONS.

Mary Catherine LAVAL was born in Alsace-Lorrain, France, April 21st, 1832. She left France for America with her parents and one sister, the late Mrs. Peter MANATREY, March 14th, 1846. After a tedious voyage of eleven weeks, by way of the West Indies, they reached New Orleans. She was married to Jerome PARSONS September 20th, 1849. To Mr. and Mrs. PARSONS were born eleven children, of whom six are living. Four of the five died in childhood, while Julia, the eldest, lived to rear a large family, and two of her sons were present at their grandmother's bedside when she died. All the six living children, Mrs. Hayes B. WHITE, Louis L., John R., Jesse W., William and Mrs. Perry HICKENBOTTOM, were with their mother in her last hours to comfort her, and, so far as possible, help her to bear the heavy burden of suffering. In 1875, by the death of her husband, Mrs. PARSONS was left with a large family to care for and rear. She bravely discharged the heavy burdens imposed upon her, with the most devoted affection for her children. She was reared in the Catholic communion and faithfully observed all the requirements of the church with joyfulness, but in later years she transferred her religious life, because of convenience, to a church nearer at hand, most devoutly partook of its sacraments, entered into its services and freely gave of her means to its support. Her kindness to all with whom she came into association was unbounded. She was ready at any hour of the day or night to respond to a call for help, and, without an exception, her neighbors will long mourn for a friend whose loss it will in many instances be impossible to replace. Mrs. PARSONS died Saturday, June 23d, aged seventy-four years, two months, two days. Rev. G. L. Minear of Mt. Pleasant conducted religious services, and interment was made in Union cemetery. A large number of people was at the funeral which was one of the most largely attended of any ever known in this community.
