DEATH OF AN OLD SETTLER.-- Many of the readers of The Tribune, and especially all old settlers, will be pained to learn of the death of Mr. Jno. R. PARSONS, who, after a long and distressing illness, died on the 27th inst. 'Squire PARSONS was born in Randolph Co., Va., in the year 1806. He came to Iowa in 1837, and with a young family endured the privations of a pioneer life -- privations which were real and hardships which were constant. Mr. PARSONS united with the Methodist church when he was twenty-six years old, and remained all his life a consistent and supporting member, ready at all times for good works. Thus has passed away another of the fast decreasing band of sturdy pioneers who blazed their way through the forests and who bore the brunt of the burden in making a wild country tame. At his funeral at Parsonville church, near his home, the numerous sorrowing friends present showed the esteem in which he was held, as a kind neighbor and an upright citizen. The funeral discourse was preached by Rev. Horton.
