OBITUARY

JOHN W. MAXWELL

A feeling of sadness cast a gloom when the news was announced that John W. MAXWELL had breathed his last at his home near Lockridge Saturday, August 25.

John was of a strong, robust nature, sickness making its first inroad about four years ago. He was not considered serious until about three months ago, and during the last nine weeks he was bedfast. Pernicious anemia and stomach trouble was the cause of his death. Everything was done that could be done and careful nursing and medical skill was to no avail for the master had called him up higher, saying, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."

John was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac MAXWELL. He was born January 8, 1868 on the farm near where he died, southwest of Lockridge. February 10, 1892 he was united in marriage to Alice Maud SMITH with whom he has ever lived contented and happy; ever sharing each others joys and sorrows. Four children were the fruit of this union, one little son, Chester, passed away. Those living today are Mrs. Thurman WATKINS of Glasgow, Guy of Mt. Union and Virgil living on the home place who are an honor to their father and show traces of his excellent teaching and care. He also leaves five grandchildren, an aged mother who is almost heartbroken to know that the only son and idol of her heart is gone, and two sisters, Mrs. Will HORTON and Mrs. Don GRABER.

He was converted in early manhood and was an honest and useful citizen, a good neighbor, a kind and loving husband and father and ever a dutiful son and brother. None knew John intimately but to love and respect him. Always cheerful he was, and even on his bed of suffering he never complained.

Patient to the last, so why should we mourn. He has but stepped over the borderland where sorrows are no more. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community.

Funeral services conducted by Frank E. Weston, pastor of the First Baptist church of Mt. Pleasant, were held at the Parsonsville church on Monday afternoon at three oclock. A large company assembled to express their sorrow, many beautiful flowers covered the casket. Gust Scott, the well known gospel singer sang: "Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me", "Beautiful Isle of Somwhere", "Good Night and Good Morning", and "The Unclouded Day". Mrs. Jesse GRABER was accompanist. The pall bearers were William Bankhead, Frankie Erickson, Clarence Murphy, Walter Rizor, Lawrence Six, William Brown. Interment was in Union cemetery.
