IOWA NEWS.

… --David KELTNER, an old citizen of Fairfield, died recently, and before his death stated that he had buried some gold in the smoke house. It was found in a pot, and amounted to $4,170. It had been buried 13 years.

… Just before David KELTNER of Fairfield, died, he told his weeping friends where he had buried $4,170 in gold.

Note: Buried in Union Cemetery, Jefferson Co., IA. According to dates on his gravestone, he was 58 years, 4 months, 19 days old when he died on February 16, 1873; this has to be in error, given the dates of the above articles. This errant date also appears in his wife's obituary (Martha Ann TRAVIS KELTNER) in 1891.
