DEATH OF JAMES HICKENBOTTOM.--

James HICKENBOTTOM died very suddenly at 230: (sic) o'clock Saturday afternoon. Although he had been seriously sick for near three months, yet he had been so much better for a day or two that there was little thought of death. He was helped to a chair by a daughter, but as a soon seated gasped, "Oh! I'm gone," and fell to the floor. His heart had been paralyzed. His funeral occurred at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Methodist church and the burial at Parsonsville.

James HICKENBOTTOM was born in Cumberland county, Kentucky, Sept. 23 1829, and his parents moved to Morgan county, Ill., when he was about two years old. In the fall of 1837 they moved to Jefferson county, and the next spring settled at Parsonsville. James was married Nov. 17, 1852, to Miss Jane ALLISON. They had ten children, of whom four girls and three boys are living. The mother died in 1880 (sic - 1879). He has since been twice married, the last wife surviving him.

Mr. HICKENBOTTOM was an excellent citizen, and occupied an influential position in the community.

Note: Second wife was Mary F. MERCER RISTINE, who is buried in Evergreen Cemetery with first husband Samuel RISTINE; third wife was Susan L. DEAN, who later married Charles Case, died in CO in 1940 and is buried there. James and first wife Jane are buried in Union Cemetery.
