Harvey Reese Jr., 82, of Galesburg, Ill., and formerly of Abingdon, Ill., died at 10:53 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hinchilff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel in Abingdon, with the Rev. Raymond McLaren officiating. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery with military rites.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Memorials can be made to John Mosser Public Library in Abingdon.

Mr. Reese was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Quincy, Ill., the son of Harvey and Mildred Lytle Reese. He married Kathryn "Kate" Dredge Burroughs July 13, 1963, in Jacksonville. She died Feb. 7, 2005.

He lived in Perry, Ill., Quincy, Abingdon and Galesburg. He graduated from Perry High School in 1941, and later from Illinois State University.

He served in the U.S. Navy for three years as a petty officer in the southwest Pacific and later served in the Naval Reserves.

Mr. Reese worked as an assistant supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration for 20 years. He worked for Admirals (Maytag Co.) in Galesburg for 13 years. He was an appraiser for Federal Land Bank and an independent appraiser for many years.

He was a member of Abingdon Christian Church.

Mr. Reese was a member and past president of Abingdon Kiwanis Club. A member of Knox County Artist Guild, Knox County Literary Coalition and a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Survivors include three sons, Steven Reese and wife Cathryn of Altona, Iowa, Michael Reese and wife Anita of Galena, Ill., and Duane Reese of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Connie Morris and husband Raymond of Keosauqua, and Lynette Sneddon and husband Charles of Springfield, Mo.; one brother, Roger Reese and wife Evelyn of Griggsville, Ill.; 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Richard Reese.
