Raymond D. Mercer, 86, of La Canada, Calif., died Friday, March 11, 2005.

The funeral was held March 15 at The Church of The Hills in Los Angeles, Calif. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park of Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles.

Mr. Mercer was born June 15, 1918, in Van Buren County, the son of Edward S. and Iva L. Ramsey Mercer. He married Janetta Flower March 20, 1945. She died Oct. 22, 1998.

He graduated from Packwood High School in 1935.

Mr. Mercer served in the United States Air Force during World War II.

After retiring from the service, he worked with the Los Angles Police Department until his retirement.

He owned his own private airplane and enjoyed flying.

Survivors include two sons, David Mercer and wife Sofia of Malibu, Calif., and William Mercer and wife Lisa of La Cresenta, Calif.; one daughter, Janine Bonn and husband Greg of La Canada; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Huddleston of Burlington, Arlene Nelson of Fairfield and Jean Marshall of Packwood; and three brothers, Ed D. Mercer of Folsom, Calif., Richard Mercer of Salisbury, Md., and Gerald Mercer of Keswick.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Reva Mercer Myers; and two brothers, Wayne Mercer and James Dean Mercer.
